Sat-ur-day

Interestingly enough, Saturday the 14th is an extremely accurate date. The four looks somewhat like a chair. If we break down the word Saturday, there is an explanation of what I did today: sat (sat at my computer coding), ur (your- or my), day (all today). I sat all day. Lol! Well, I thought it was funny :-P Yes, I coded, watched and re-watched tutorial after tutorial, and read API after API online until some concepts finally clicked. I’m getting better at trouble shooting (or debugging) my code. It’s amazing what havoc a simple parenthesis can create. Also, I never realized how important it is to follow install recommendations. I didn’t realize that part of my code was working in Visual Studio because I forgot to click the box to download one of the add-ons during my Unity install. Once I figured that out, such a huge weight was lifted off of my shoulders. It’s all in the details. With a properly configured program and some finely tuned proof reading, I was finally able to move my player from user input in Unity. I also took some time to do a tiny bit of catch up earlier to create a word press portfolio- an after hours labor of love. Also, shout out to my slack community! You guys are the best! Aside from the help sections of my development applications and Google, my best resource has been the wonderful community of ACI GameDev Interns and staff. This was exactly what I missed from my previous time learning to code online. The community really does make all the difference. We all seem very dedicated- I’ve been coding and studying at all kinds of hours and surprisingly there have been people logged on at the same times on Slack- I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing, but it is comforting to know that we’re all in this together. I also started the recommended C# tutorial. I’m definitely going to do some after hours self development and re-watch some of the material I went over so that I can make sure this stuff is reinforced. I’m learning that sometimes for me, it feels like it’s best even if I don’t understand a concept 100% to limit the time I spend on it. Either ask for help or drop it and pick it back up if it takes too long. I don’t know why it’s been working for me, but it does. I’ve been catching on to things a lot more quickly today. I notice that there’s an approach that one has to develop when learning this stuff- once that’s figured, hopefully I’ll be moving faster than the cube in my project. I’m committed to learning this material and creating some really cool things.
